Shoemakers protest by burning shoes
A group of shoe producers burned shoes on the street in Istanbul’s Beyazıt neighborhood on Tuesday in protest of Fatih Municipality’s decision to remove them from their workshops.
“We have produced and sold our products in Beyazıt and Gedikpaşa for many years now. They want to get us out of here and send us to İkitelli,” said Celal Fırat, a Beyazıt Gedikpaşa Artisan Association spokesman, in a statement during the protest.
“This decision is not for our benefit but only for the benefit of some property owners and some cooperatives that plan to rent us a workplace in İkitelli,” said Fırat.

End trade war on shoes
Britain's shopkeepers have joined forces with the Government to urge European Union countries to vote against extending punitive tariffs on leather shoes from Asia at a crucial meeting on Thursday.
They have warned that extending the tariffs would "deal a hammer blow" to hard-pressed retailers and damage Europe's trade interests with Asia.
The original tariff was set for two years, but following a request in 2008 from members in favour the EU carried out a 15-month review, during which time the tariff remained.
European retailers, such as Clarks International, which have both stores and manufacturing operations, have paid about €800m (£710m) in import charges for leather shoes from the two Asian countries since the charges were introduced in 2006.
Alisdair Gray, the British Retail Consortium's director in Brussels, said: "As the UK shoe sector shows tentative signs of a recovery, the timing [of a tariff extension] could not be worse, and it would be another hammer blow for struggling shoe retailers as the UK limps out of recession. It is just protectionism."
BG Stores, the UK's fastest growing online store and owners of Shoes U Wear, said: "In our view, it is an unnecessary tariff that has not achieved its objective of protecting European footwear manufacturers."

Shoe throwing

The journalist whose name has become synonymous with a new style of public protest has been released from jail in Iraq. Last December, Muntadar al-Zaidi threw his shoe at the former US President George Bush - an act that left an indelible mark on the collective consciousness of protesters the world over.
Online Shoe Sales up

Sales of Shoes rose by 3% as parents bought back-to-school footwear for their children.
There was a slight rise in month-on-month spending on gifts, electrical items and shoes, the report found.

Unionbank Philippines Commits Theft on it's Customers
It seems like Unionbank Philippines thinks it has a right to steal customers money. As you maybe aware BG Stores has been involved in helping the poor in the Philippines for a few years. One of the things that amazes us is the incompetence of major companies in the Philippines and we feel sure it is one of the main reasons why the country is in poverty. We have just been informed about just such a case a young woman goes to a ATM machine to withdraw money from her Unionbank account for food, the machine does not pay out but it still deducts the amount from her account, so she reports it to Unionbank only to be informed it will take them between 3 to 15 days to even look into it. In that time the woman goes hungry, what if it was her rent money she was withdrawing and Unionbank takes 15 days to look into it, by that time she has been evicted from her house and living on the streets. It is theft and there is no doubt about it, they have taken her money and are refusing to let her have it. No one at Unionbank can give a good reason why it takes 15 days. I wonder how many customers this happens to everyday and how much Unionbank makes by withholding customers money. I also suspect because Filipinos are not the type of people that complain a lot many of them just give up and right it of as a loss.Enough is enough it’s time to take action against companies that steal from the poor, enough is enough of the companies who bad service keeps the Philippines in poverty, we urge you all to withdraw and close your accounts. Lets hit Unionbank where it hurts them Unionbank can not trade without your money and to be honest they should not be trading when they do things like this to the people of the Philippines. Please post your complaints about Unionbank we will take them all and see if we can help you.

Lucky The Duck Gets New Shoes

Lucky The Duck Gets New Shoes -->
LUCKY the duckling was in an accident that left one foot pointing in the wrong direction when it healed. Lucky was doomed to hop or swim in circles, round and round the little lake. In time the circle would decrease until one day Lucky would disappear from view and reappear bathed in hot orangey butter.
But Lucky’s mummy duck, Allison Morgan, hired cobbler Kelvin Reddicliffe at the Newport branch of Timpsons Ltd to fit Lucky with a rubber “roman sandal”, and cut him a new set of keys.
One problem is that when Lucky takes to the waters, the rubber floats, causing Lucky to look like a synchronised swimmer of limited range.Happily, a vet says he can insert pins into Lucky’s thigh and create the world’s first ready made duck kebab.

Crocs going Broke
The news is not all gloom and misery. There is a ray of sunshine. Crocs are going down the drain. The company that manufactured possibly the most hideous shoes in the world is now facing closure.
In 2007, Crocs made a profit of $168.2million. Last year, they lost $185.1million. Their stock price has plummeted 76 per cent. The auditors are wondering if they will manage to stay afloat.

Oakley Golf Shoes
Oakley is known for it's high standards. They've got some of the most reliable athletic gear available, always opting for the best performance possible so that their athletes can be at their best. If you haven't figured out your perfect brand, and you just want something to start with, until you really figure out what feels perfect to you, consider going for the Oakley Shoes.
Though I warn you, after you you try an Oakley product, you might fall in love and decide to never try another brand again!
The reason Oakley does so well is because they always try to think like an athlete - do you want shoes that were designed with the industry standard in mind, or would you like shoes designed with the athlete in mind? Instead of doing what everyone else does, Oakley Shoes are designed to be something that a Golfer would like to wear on the course. That means things like moisture-wicking climage control, shock absorption (to go easy on those knees!), a one year warranty on waterproofing and an over all comfortable feel.

Shoe Repair Boost
A TRADITIONAL Yorkshire shoe seller and repairer is expanding despite the recession, as hard-pressed shoppers choose to have their boots fixed rather than replaced.
Family firm Craggs, established 76 years ago when the one-legged Tom Craggs took over a failing Leeds shoe business, is now expanding in Yorkshire on the back of new business in stores and online.
Its expansion has been driven, in part, by an increase in demand for repairs to smart and casual shoes, hiking and riding boots and boots made by Ugg, known for being durable.
Shoppers pay up to £160 for a pair of new Ugg boots but can have them repaired for just a fraction of that figure. The firm began doing Ugg repairs in November 2007 and then set up a website, which has led to customers sending them boots from across Europe. The firm expects turnover for the 12 months ending September this year to reach £1m, with shoe repairing accounting for about 70 per cent of that. Income generated from the website has been ploughed back into business, helping to fund Craggs, expansion.
Analysts have predicted that Britain will experience some modest economic growth next year, which could spell the end of shoppers' current taste for thrift, but Mr Forbes said he was not worried that people would give up having their shoes repaired."If people are realising that they can get their shoes repaired, it will create a demand for the future. If they are happy with the repair, we will get more of a customer base."

Gladiator shoes
Gladiator shoes are the perfect combination of both durability and style. It is quite impossible to think of any other shoes that have those features while maintaining a natural look. These shoes break entire fashion barriers and offer such huge range of designs, which on the one hand are very good looking, and on the other hand are durable enough to bear the extreme conditions.
Gladiator shoes are basically made from animal skin like snake, cow or zebra. The gladiator sandals are very old fashioned, but with the advents of technology and fashion, they have now become the best option for women who seek style and comfort. These sandals have become the latest trend in the market.
In the past, gladiator shoes were being considered old fashioned due to various colors and accessories that are being used to manufacture them. Nowadays, with the help of some genius shoe designers, gladiator shoes have received a total makeover and have revamped to become a must-have accessory for every woman all around the world.
The best advantage of these sandals is that they are made of the natural materials. Most shoemakers avoid using any synthetic material. Using synthetic material can be very harmful for the feet, as it is very uncomfortable and can cause infections. Animal skin on the other hand, is very comfortable and rarely causes any infections or discomfort on the feet of the person wearing it.
It was always logical that a shoe made of animal skin is going to be very comfortable and durable, but for some reason, it was not conceived as a possible idea from our shoe designers. Not until the gladiator sandals hit the market, which are very durable and will last even if they are to be used extensively. Durability is one of the major reasons behind the popularity of gladiator shoes. The only drawback of my favorite shoes is that they can be quite costly when compared to an artificial product. The scarcity of animal skin is the cause behind the hefty price tag that we need to pay to own those gems.
You can easily compare the prices of different designer gladiator shoes online. There are several websites, which sell fashionable and designer gladiator sandals. They offer you a huge range of shoes to choose from. You can easily go through them and opt for the one which offers both comfort and durability while it goes hand in hand with your personality.
You shouldn’t think twice about buying gladiator shoes – you should actually be in a hurry to have a pair for your feet. These beauties are in demand and very difficult to get. Think of it as a gift to your feet, but most importantly… yourself!

M&S poor-fitting shoes
M&S appears to have put its foot in it again, as its own shareholders take the store to task over the cut of its slingbacks.
Women are complaining that it is impossible to find a fashionable choice that fits or provides the style and comfort expected.
Anger about the poor-fitting shoes, lacklustre men's shorts and a shortage of thermal underwear peppered exchanges at the M&S annual general meeting yesterday.
Mrs Girsman's daughter, Liz Saul, complained that it was difficult to find larger - size eight - shoes for women in M&S outlets.

The designer labels says there has been an explosion in the number of website scams in the past six months.
Genuine Louboutin shoes as worn by Sarah Jessica Parker, Victoria Beckham, Megan Fox and Halle Berry cab cost more than £400 a pair.
The designs, with their fashionable killer heels, have reached mythical status among the legions of women desperate to emulate these style icons.

Women get on their running shoe
MORE than 2,000 runners, walkers, and an army of volunteers packed the park at the discovery centre in Great Notley, near Braintree, to take part and cheer on those in the Race for Life.
Fortunately the weather cooled as women, many in fancy dress, joined to cover the five kilometre route.
It was an emotional start as organisers asked the crowd to pause to remember their loved ones who have been affected by cancer.
But the atmosphere remained buoyant, as children and even some dogs joined in the family event.

'Emergency shoes' go stateside
The inventor of Rollasoles is set to launch the vending machine shoes in America.
The roll-up flat shoes give relief to women who've spent the night partying in heels and want to give their feet a rest on the way home.
27-year-old Matt Horan came up with the concept after being made redundant from his job on a cruise ship in 2008.
Ibiza super-clubs Eden and Space have sold out of Rollasoles and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has championed the shoes on his site.
Gary Lineker and Danielle Bux are even reportedly having personalised Rollasoles at their wedding.
Horan, from Bristol, thought of the idea after his girlfriend kept complaining about sore feet after nights out.
"After getting tired of giving my girlfriend a piggyback home every Saturday night, I had a 'eureka' moment," he said.

freaky shoes!
We're used to seeing weird and wacky footwear on the soles of female models and celebs, but it isn't often you find anything this freaky of the feet of a man. These bizarre, jodhpur boot/stiletto hybrids made their debut earlier today on the catwalk in Berlin. They're by designer Marcel Ostertag, who also clearly likes his male models in short leggings and silk dresses worn as shirts. We like how the model wearing them is looking SO excited to be there, but we also think he looks slightly like an awkward ballerina trying to balance in those boots. Would you ever buy a pair of these for your other half or yourself? Vote below and let us know.
Scott All Mountain Shoes
The All Mountain mixes protection and comfort but in the demi-boot shape pioneered by the Specialized Trail 110.
The futuristic looking Ergologic upper is made from sturdy manmade leather with seriously tough plastic protection in the toe and heel areas. It’s not for show either, as we’ve belted rocks clean across the trail using the toecap of the All Mountain with no lasting ill effects to foot or shoe.
The fit is as good as any triple Velcro strap shoe thanks to a really well-cut upper that’s tough and rugged. It’s not as stiff as a race offering, but that’s fine for this sort of shoe. The high ankle guard protects against bashes from the cranks and makes this an ideal shoe for those with bony or weak ankles.
A perfect shoe for year-round trail attacks.

Nike Sued for copyright infringement
The 80s hard-rock legends are suing the sports manufacturer, claiming that a new line of trainers borrows from the design of Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat guitar
Van Halen are suing Nike over a pair of red and black trainers. The Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame inductees, legendary for their revolving cast of lead singers, claim that they have suffered "irreparable harm and damage" after Nike released running shoes with crisscrossing stripes.
ELVH, Van Halen's company, filed the suit earlier this week, alleging that a new line of Nike shoes infringes on the aesthetics of Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat guitar. The guitar, a hybrid Fender and Gibson built in the 1970s, is red with zigzagging white and black stripes. The pattern was copyrighted by the band in 2001, and licensed for a line of Van Halen trainers earlier this year.

Oversized shoes sent girl falling to death
A man charged in the death of a toddler told a friend the girl fell down stairs because she was wearing pink plastic princess shoes that were too big, his manslaughter trial heard Tuesday.
The trial of Terry Dean Allen, 27, began in Truro provincial court Monday, more than four years after three-year-old Samantha Marie Mercer was taken off life-support and died at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax.

Desert boots
The desert boot, which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary. This great, British summer staple is more popular than ever. Nathan Clark (of the Clarks Shoes family) came up with the idea back in 1949, inspired by the crepe-soled boots that British officers had made up for them in the Cairo Old Bazaar during the Second World War. It was introduced to the world at the Chicago Shoe Fair of 1950 and the rest, as they say, is history.
The original desert boot is still available from Clarks for £69, but it has become such a classic that many other brands have come out with a version, including Loake (£79.99, loake.co.uk) and Church’s (from £160, 020 7734 2438); the ink and navy blue options from the latter are particularly handsome.

Gladiator Shoes
Style expert Katrina Szish spotlighted some summer styles Monday on The Early Show that are sure to kick your summer into gear. Szish said gladiators are back -- and not at the Coliseum. "The gladiator shoe is something we saw last season, everyone said (gladiators) are not gonna last," Szish said. "Well, they're back again and still making women everywhere feel like goddesses." Though in their second round in the fashion ring, gladiators, Szish said, can take you back in time to the ancient days of Rome and Greece. The sandals, Szish said, feature a T-strap with multiple straps going across the foot. In the past, she explained, most gladiator sandals were brown or black. But now, she said, you can find gladiator sandals in trendy metallic colors, bold bright hues, sexy snakeskin and just about every other shade and fabric. And they're more diverse than ever, emerging in high heels, low heels and mid heels as full-on gladiator sandals or just in subtle details of the gladiator style
Protester threw shoe at Chinese premier
A protester who threw one of his shoes at the Chinese premier, Wen Jiabao, during a lecture at Cambridge University behaved "unreasonably" and could have caused serious injury, a court heard today.
Martin Jahnke, 27, a German studying pathology at Darwin College, Cambridge, called Wen a "dictator" and accused senior Cambridge University staff of "prostituting themselves" by allowing him to speak, a district judge sitting in Cambridge was told. Jahnke threw the shoe towards the stage where Wen was standing and it landed a few metres from the Chinese leader, Cambridge magistrates court heard.
The student is accused of using words and behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to Wen or others. He denies any offence.
The judge, Ken Sheraton, was told the incident happened on 2 February while the premier was on a state visit.
Caroline Allison, prosecuting, said Jahnke disturbed Wen's Cambridge speech by whistling. "He was heard shouting words to the effect that the university was prostituting themselves by allowing the premier to speak and referred to the premier as a dictator," she said.
"He picked up one of his shoes, a trainer, which he then threw, which must have been with some force, on to the stage area a few yards away from where the premier was standing."

Clark's Profit
Clark's, the 174-year-old shoe specialist, has reported a 16 percent increase in annual profits, taking advantage of the "relative disarray" of its high street rivals. The Somerset-based company has also unveiled its plan to rationalise its network of 400 high street shops across Britain after its direct sales website "made a highly encouraging start". Chief executive Peter Bolliger said he expected flat sales in the UK this year and moderate reductions in the US. The company made 86.8 million pounds from the sale of 49 million shoes in the year to the end of January, while shoe sales generated group sales of 1.122 billion pounds, up 6.6 percent.
Recycle those old running shoes
SF Running Examiner: Recycle those old running shoes
So what should you do with your old running shoes? In the age of “going green” and doing what you can to eliminate pollution, don’t throw your shoes in the trash, reuse and recycle them!
There are several different uses for your shoes depending on the shape they are in. You could consider dropping your shoes off at the nearest Goodwill or Salvation Army. But if you want to make sure your shoes land on the feet of a runner in need, consider these programs: Shoe4Africa.org (gently used shoes only) – they shipped their first pair of running shoes to Africa in 1995 and began sponsoring running events, camps and races. OneWorldRunning – One World Running is an international program promoting an awareness of health, fitness and nutrition by providing running shoes to those in need in the United States and around the world.

TrekSta
About 20 years after establishing themselves in South Korea, TrekSta shoes have branched out to Moscow, Idaho, where they are not-so- secretly plotting the death of the shoelace.
The conspiracy actually originates in Denver, where Boa Technology is based, but reaches a worldwide audience of some 4.3 million pairs of walking, hiking, running, climbing and other assorted shoes the company claims feature the Boa Lacing System. And if the TrekSta Sidewinder serves as an example of a laceless future, good riddance.
These sturdy light hikers-trail runners lock on to the most fit-challenged feet with a twist of the wrist, loosening to casual comfort with the flip of a switch when you choose. Durable, braided stainless steel wrapped in a polymer coating resists abrasion and alleviates pressure points
